Camcon Gains Patent for Camless Engine Technology23 January 2006 - Camcon Technology, the UK inventor and developer of the Camcon Binary Actuation Technology, today announced that it has been granted a patent for its Intelligent Valve Actuation (IVA) technology. The patent has been awarded across Europe, in the UK, France, Sweden, Italy, Spain, Belgium and Portugal in conjunction with client requests. Intelligent Valve Actuation (IVA) provides a compact, low cost, low power consumption mechanism that can significantly improve the engine combustion efficiency. It enhances engine performance and fuel economy, whilst enabling reduced emissions from the engine. IVA allows each valve of the engine to be independently controlled. It supports a number of lift positions and allows for energy recovery to support low power consumption. As a result, it provides low seating velocities to ensure durability and low noise. “IVA is a disruptive technology with the potential to fundamentally change the car engine for first time in ninety years,” said Ian Anderson, Chief Operating Officer, Camcon. “As such it is imperative that we can assure patent protection for our customers in their local territories.” The company also holds the IVA patent in Australia, China, Japan, Korea, India, Thailand, Russia, Brazil, Canada, Mexico and the US. The high speed, low energy consumption and long life features of the Camcon binary actuator means that it can be implemented in a variety of industries, including automotive, aviation and agriculture . T he company already holds patents for its rolling-swing valve, developed for applications in the unfiltered fluids environment, and its bi-stable pinch valve, aimed at the medical industry. - ends -
Camcon Technology licenses its technology to customers, typically on a field-of-use basis. The company develops pre-production prototypes for customers on a consultancy basis and then hands over designs either to its customers to manufacture in volume, or to a manufacturing partner.
